Ahmed Ziad
Ziad has won 21 Awards including 9 international Awards. He won outstanding achievement from Florida Motion Picture and Television Association with two Academy Awards for Best Director, for his work on The Lessons (2012), becoming the first dual-national person to win the award. He also won the Crystal Reel Award for Best Foreign Language Film for Real Premonition (2007) for which he also received nominations for Best Picture and Best Director.
Biography of Ahmed Ziad
Childhood and education:
Ahmed Ziad was born in a Berber family of twelve kids in a village in Tifelt, Morocco. Poor family, his father was working as a security guard in a communication government company. Ziad was brought up in an artistic environment as teenage life back then in Morocco was musical and art oriented. Ziad studied in Imam Malike High School. He entered University of Hassan II to study literature, but he quit before graduation in 1981. His father had wanted him to become a professor, but he had become interested in attending drama and the arts in United States. In 1982 Ziad’s dreams become true, He traveled to United States with a lump sum of $300.00 in his pocket, faced a difficult time in surviving in Oklahoma City Oklahoma, In 1983 attended EL Reno Junior College in general education There he set his career on the path of performance art. As Ziad’s artistic view evolved with time, In 1986 moved to Florida and attended Saint Petersburg College, Ziad took part in so many plays and started learning about the technical aspects of film production. and graduated from Paragon academy. Ziad has then become officially involved in film direction. In 1988 joined (FMPTA) Florida Motion Pictures and Television Association, There Ziad polished his skills and worked with talented people in the movie industry (Dino Hurman, Dave Gambel, Jerry Alan, Dave Berette, Ray Nelson, Mike Delavopy).
Career:
Debut from Morocco:
Ahmed Ziad began his career as a theater actor since 1969 at Al Motanabil in Casablanca Morocco, He took part at so many short plays, In 1973 joined Goethe institute in the theater department, there learned stage lightning and stage management, In 1975 was given a role in a major play titled “Haraze Mona bou Dlale”, writeen by a great writer (Hayani Boublibe). In 1978 wrote and directed tree plays, The Preacher, The Madison Man, The Fisherman. In 1982, he moved to the United States of America, to pursue his education.
Arrival to the United States:
In 1982 he attended Oklahoma City University for a general education and moved to El Reno Junior College in 1984 where he attended art classes. In 1986 moved to Florida and attended Saint Petersburg College in Pinellas County. In 1992, Ziad joined Florida Motion Picture and Television Association (FMPTA), he learned cinematography from skilled producers and Directors. In 1988, he joined Florida Motion Pictures and Television Association (FMPTA), Ziad polished his skills with FMPTA from 1988 to 2004. During his college life, Ziad took part in so many plays and started learning about the technical aspects of film production. He graduated and moved to Florida in 1986 and enrolled in Paragon academy. Ziad has then become officially involved in film direction when he became president of Sunscreen Film Society in Clearwater, FL.
